It is no revelation to modern forest managers around the world that prescribed burning is beneficial to the preservation of forest health and can reduce the intensity of wildland fires. When a prescription calls for the use of helicopter assets for the purpose of aerial ignition, techniques and equipment have typically included the use of aerial ignition devices (AID) such as plastic sphere dispensers (PSD).

For the past five years, Type One Incident Support of Bend, Oregon has been working with SEI Industries in Canada to develop a new PSD delivery system that is reliable and also includes a Western US based supply of the plastic spheres for quick delivery through the Federal, State and private forest management systems.
